European Commission’s Competitiveness Compass: Political Ambition Must Translate into Reality

Today, the European Commission unveiled its Communication on “A Competitiveness Compass for the EU”, outlining a strategic vision to boost the EU’s global economic standing. The European Tech Alliance (EUTA) calls for swift implementation to translate political intent into meaningful regulatory improvements for the digital and tech sector.

The Competitiveness Compass sets out key priorities, including regulatory simplification. Among the numerous proposals, EUTA looks forward to seeing how the Simplification Omnibus Proposal and Single Market Strategy will turn this ambition into reality, especially for the digital and tech sector.

The following can be attributed to EUTA’s Secretary General, Victoria de Posson

“We hope to see the political ambition of strengthening Europe’s competitiveness translate into concrete initiatives that streamline the existing legislative patchwork rather than adding further complexity. EU digital rules need to fit together like a puzzle.”

“For European tech to scale and reach its full global potential, we need more streamlined and harmonised rules. The ambition seems to be there—now we must work together to make it happen.”

“EUTA and its members look forward to working with the Commission and other EU institutions to ensure Europe remains competitive, especially in today’s challenging geopolitical landscape.”
