EUTA co-hosts high-level roundtable on the future of European e-commerce

As part of the Polish Presidency’s Digital Summit, the European Tech Alliance (EUTA), together with Classifieds Marketplaces Europe and Ecommerce Europe, co-hosted a high-level roundtable titled “Scaling European e-commerce: Smart regulation for a fair, resilient and sustainable Single Market.”

The roundtable brought together senior representatives from the EU institutions, national governments, and leading digital, technology and e-commerce companies.

Participants called for urgent action to improve the conditions for European e-commerce to scale, emphasising four key priorities: regulatory clarity, smarter rules, fairer competition, and a level playing field.

In his opening address, Minister Dariusz Standerski stressed the need for enhanced collaboration between policymakers and industry voices to deliver on European leadership. EU Commission Director Rita Wezenbeek and Astrid Arndt further echoed the importance of ensuring alignment between policy ambition and practical enforcement.

The joint statement issued following the event urges policymakers to:

  • Prioritise a European Tech Strategy that supports European tech innovators scaling across the EU Single Market;
  • Tackle regulatory fragmentation and outdated rules that hinder growth;
  • Strengthen enforcement mechanisms and collaboration between competent authorities;
  • Ensure a level playing field, particularly in light of competitive distortions caused by non-EU actors.

EUTA will continue its close engagement with European and national institutions to promote a future-fit policy environment that unlocks digital potential and fosters sustainable economic leadership.
