Brussels, 28 September 2025 – The European Tech Alliance (EUTA) responded to the consultation on the review of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), emphasizing that effective enforcement is critical to ensure Europe’s competitiveness. The DMA is a landmark piece of legislation designed to create fairer and more contestable digital markets, but its success depends on the compliance of designated gatekeepers and the enforcement efforts of the European Commission.
Europe’s competitiveness relies on a level playing field where companies can innovate and thrive in a predictable and fair environment, ensuring everyone is complying with applicable rules. At this stage, the focus must remain on enforcement. The DMA has only recently entered into force, and regulators, gatekeepers, competing businesses and consumers alike are still adapting to the new framework.
Reopening the DMA text now would be premature and counterproductive. Any attempt to do so risks prolonging enforcement procedures, creating unnecessary uncertainty for regulators and companies, and undermining the clarity of obligations for designated gatekeepers. Moreover, revisiting the text could water down the DMA’s carefully balanced provisions before its full potential has even been tested in practice.
EUTA urges the European Commission to focus on consistent enforcement where there are clear breaches of the DMA obligations, allowing the Digital Markets Act to deliver its full potential and strengthen Europe’s position as a global leader in fair and innovative digital markets.
