AI Omnibus: EUTA welcomes extended timelines in the political agreement

The European Tech Alliance (EUTA), representing leading European-born tech companies, today responded to the outcome of the AI Omnibus trilogue political agreement.

EUTA would have welcomed further developments delivering more meaningful simplification for European tech companies. Genuine simplification remains an important objective, and one that is somewhat lacking in the current outcome. European innovators need clear, coherent and workable rules to invest, develop and scale AI within the Single Market.

At the same time, EUTA recognises that the most critical element has been secured: the application deadline for high-risk obligations has been extended, giving the necessary time for compliance infrastructure (e.g., EU databases, notified bodies, harmonised standards and testing support) to be in place before the rules apply.

EUTA looks forward to continuing a constructive, solutions-oriented dialogue with the EU institutions to ensure the AI Act delivers a truly risk-based framework that strengthens Europe’s long-term competitiveness and leadership in artificial intelligence.

The following can be attributed to EUTA’s Secretary General, Victoria de Posson:

We would have welcomed bolder simplification to ease the path for European tech companies.”
“That said, extending the application timeline is the most important outcome for European innovators: it ensures the infrastructure for development and compliance can realistically be ready when the rules take effect.”
