EUTA Position on Ex-Ante Rules

The EUTA welcomes the European Commission’s objective to address competition issues that have emerged in the European market. We believe that new ex-ante rules should complement existing competition law in order to provide fast and effective relief from widespread and unfair practices emerging from specific online platforms acting as gatekeepers. These new rules should also focus on preventing market failure rather than attempting to remedy them. A clear and specific definition of gatekeeper platforms should be established through a combination of quantitative and qualitative criteria to ensure that the rules have the desired impact.

The EUTA looks forward to the European Commission’s legislative proposal and we are ready to promote the voice of European scale-ups in the coming discussions. Europe is a technological hub and deserves appropriate rules that foster and promote European tech champions.
