EU Tech Day.

Wednesday November 9, 2016 (Brussels, Belgium) – CEOs and senior Executives of leading brands and Europe’s fastest growing companies addressed the needs of startups with senior EU officials and national ministers at the EU Tech Day event in Brussels.

Members of the European Tech Alliance also met with Vice-President Andrus Ansip before the event for breakfast. The CEOs and senior executives included: Niklas Zennström (EUTA President, Skype founder and Atomico CEO), Frédéric Mazzella (Founder of BlaBlaCar), Janne Snellman (CFO of Supercell), Gianpiero Lotito (CEO of FacilityLive), Alejandro Artacho (CEO of Spotahome), Istvan Lam (CEO Tresorit), Panos Siozos (CEO Learnworlds) and many others.

“We asked Vice-President Ansip for continued efforts on fighting protectionist, anti-tech tendencies in the European Commission and European Parliament” said Chris Sherwood, Chair of the EUTA when asked about the breakfast. “We also encouraged Mr. Ansip to help us communicate to the Commission staff that there are European tech companies available to consult and share their combined experiences.”

At the EU Tech Day event government officials turned out in strength to engage EUTA members both on and off stage. Delivering their views on stage included Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, Director for Consumer Affairs Despina Spanou and Members of the European Parliament Eva Paunova, Kaja Kallas and Catherine Stihler. To an audience of over 150 people, Niklas Zennström, as EUTA President, delivered the following comments during his opening keynote: “There’s never been a better time to start a European tech company than today. We now have 44 tech companies in Europe that have reached the billion dollar valuation mark. In fact, games generated $20.3bn in revenue in Europe in 2015, and these firms are here today as members of the EUTA.”
